Did you know that a toothpick can be used for more than, well, picking your teeth? It is actually quite a versatile item.
From DIY projects to household cleaning chores, cleaning life hacks, and gardening techniques. You’d be surprised to know all the different ways you can use this little wooden bit. And today, we will be letting you in on a few of our tips and tricks.
Curious yet? Then, check out these 10 new and creative ways you could use a toothpick.
1 – Use it as a small hole filler
Ever found a hole in furniture or were hoping to cover a nail hole so you could get your deposit back? Easy – just use a toothpick as a filler!
Pour a bit of wood glue onto the toothpick and insert it into the cavity you wish to fill. Cut off the excess toothpick if needed, and paint over it for a seamless finish.
You could also apply the same technique to fix a loose screw.
2 – Restore or paint your furniture
You may use a toothpick to paint spots in furniture that aren’t so easily reached by a brush. It’s also a great way to retouch smaller imperfections on wood. Besides, along with being easy to use, it’s also a much cheaper furniture painting technique than many brushes.
3 – Grow an avocado tree
I’m not saying you can grow an avocado tree out of a toothpick but you’d be surprised to learn that it can help plants grow. In the specific case of the avocado, a couple of toothpicks are inserted onto the seed to help hold it in place in a vase or cup, just enough so only half the seed is submerged. Once the roots begin to show, you can move the plant onto a pot.
Also, when you plant an avocado pit (or most seeds, for that matter) and the plant starts to grow, sometimes it can’t hold upright on its own. To ensure that it will grow properly, you can stick toothpicks on the soil next to the plant and secure it with the help of adhesive tape.
