9. Make Blankets and Denim Softer

Surprisingly, vinegar can make your blankets incredibly soft and fresh. That’s why many people around the world recognize it as the best natural fabric softener.

But that’s not all, vinegar can also make hard denim soften, so don’t throw away that pair of jeans just yet.
For softer laundry, include ½ cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle for your jeans and up to two cups of vinegar for wool and cotton blankets.

8. Banish Bad Odors

Vinegar can easily help you remove sweat, mildew, or other unpleasant and nasty smells from your clothes.

If you want your laundry to smell heavenly fresh, make sure to add a small quantity of vinegar before tossing clothing items into the laundry machine. And if the odors are particularly strong, don’t hesitate to add a whole cup of vinegar to get rid of the nasty odors.

  1. Super! I am not sure if the article is talking about apple cider vinegar or white distilled vinegar? I designated white for some jobs but what about the rest?

    • I agree with you. They should have mentioned it. It will be called an oversight of course. But looking at the headlining photo, it is displaying white distilled. Hope that helps.

      • Vinegar is a kind of miraculous solution that can leave almost any surface or item around the house sparkling. Most of us know about the cleaning powers of this product, but did you know that white vinegar can also replace laundry detergent?

This taken from the article itself

        • I use it with a small amount of detergent. Have for years. No more fabric softener or stain remover. Smells fresh and feels soft. No clinging.

      • Apparantly, white vinegar was once used to clean and disinfect hospital wards. Why need all this toxic industrialised rubbish when it cannot even prevent the emergence of bad bacteria?

    • They are referring to distilled white vinegar. If you have hard water where you live, white vinegar will help soften your wash water and remove hard water deposits from your clothes. I use it in both the wash cycle and rinse cycle. And no, you won’t smell it on your clean clothes!

  2. Been using vinegar for over 50+ years in laundry…(White V ..great smell fresh clothes it’s also a super softener.

      • I use vinegar for many types of cleaning, but I definitely would not want the vinegar smell on any of my clothes, sheets or pillow cases.

  5. I have used white vinegar for years. When my mother was living with us an had C-dif I cleaned everything that she touched with vinegar. When hospice came and diagnosed her with C-dif the nurse told me that I had done an amazing job of keeping things clean. She couldn’t believe that my husband and I didn’t have it. She said that it was very contagiours.

  6. I’ve used vinegar for 35 years. My husband used to work around heavy equipment & had grease & diesel fuel smell in his clothes. A cup of ammonia in the wash & a cup of vinegar in the rinse gets rid of grease & smell. Vinegar in rinse also helps remove soap residue from clothes.

  7. White vinegar cuts through grease on stoves! I am now using it exclusively to clean my stove top/stove. Great for bathroom cleaning, too (floor tiles, porcelain). It’s the absolute BEST thing in the world for cleaning windows – doesn’t streak! White vinegar was replaced with the separate, much more expensive cleaning products that came out over the years and our moms forgot about vinegar ( bet my grandmother used vinegar). I just (re)discovered it this past year and it is cheap and GOOD! Fill a spray bottle with water white vinegar and spritz away! It can replace most, if not all of the fancy cleaning products you have now. Plus, counter to what you might imagine, the smell dissipates almost instantly. How could it be better?!

  8. White vinegar is an amazin g pproduct for cleaning all surfaces. Especially hard wood floors, glass, mirrors and laundry. I’ve used white vinegar for over 30 years an its amazing!!!!

  9. I know that vinegar will break down hard water stain in a coffee maker, iron and so on . . but will it help keep hard water from leaving a film on your washing machine?

  10. Can I use white vinegar for black clothes? since it works like a bleach, I thought that it would be for white clothes only.

  11. I have always used vinegar, in the wash, to retain the dark dies in jeans and black clothes. It also helps keep white fuzz off dark clothes that they can often pick up mysteriously.

  12. I would like to ask how do you use white vinegar in the wash. How much in a large load? Some say use with small amount of detergent, some say use alone. Some say use it in the rinse. I would really like to try it if some kind soul would give me some guidance. Thank you.
